Join us for dinner and an angler’s casting competition. Since not everyone fishes for the same species, we decided to see who the most skilled anglers are when it comes to casting ability since that’s important no matter what you fish for. Sure to be fun for everyone from the novice to experienced fisherman, test your skills at casting for accuracy and distance.

The evening will kick off with dinner and a devotion before beginning the competition.

Rules and an example course diagram are below and also on the Facebook event page.

There will be awards for the highest score in the following age divisions based on your age on the date of the event:

Rules

Equipment:

  • Participants will need to provide their own rod and reel. The rods should be no more than 10’ in length and may be paired with a baitcast, spinning, or spincast reel.

  • You are encouraged to use your own dehooked jig/lure/weight/etc of any weight. (We reserve the right to not allow any jigs/weights/etc which could potentially cause personal injury or damage to the facility. Feel free to email us ahead of the competition with any questions.)

  • Weights and plugs will be available in ½ ounce and ⅜ ounce if needed.

Competitors will a 90 second time limit to cast at ten sequentially numbered targets from a slightly elevated platform.

The ten targets will be a combination of buckets, pails, bins, hula hoops, backyard bass, etc placed 8-40 feet from the participant within a rectangular boundary. The targets and distances will not necessarily coincide with the sample course displayed below.

Backyard bass targets will be included as the initial targets (3-4 depending on division) and they must be reeled to the platform to receive their respective points. Casts in which the plug lands on the backyard bass target without it being reeled in will not receive a point. (You will be able to check your jig/weight/etc when you arrive to ensure it will be large enough to work with these targets. We have already tested standard lead ½ ounce egg style sinkers and they do work with the backyard bass targets.)

Participants who score all 10 targets in the time limit may restart the course, beginning with target 4 or 5 depending on how many backyard bass are used, scoring additional points for each target hit.

Final Scoring and Tiebreakers:

Participants will be ranked based on their total number of points. In the event of a tie, kid rods and cane poles will be provided for a timed tiebreaker course.
