Checkpoints/Course Communication

Details

Checkpoint volunteers will be stationed along the course for the purpose of monitoring the progress of the lead runners. The job entails writing down bib numbers for the top men, women and relay teams as they pass your checkpoint, then reporting that information back to race officials at the finish line. Checkpoint volunteers must have access to a cell phone.

Lead cyclists

Details

The early lead cyclists will guide the walking group that starts two hours before the rest of the entrants, helping stop traffic if necessary. After reaching the half marathon turnaround point, the cyclists will leave the walking group and wait for the lead male and female runners in the half marathon, then guide those runners back to the finish line.

Volunteers will also enforce the closure of the east sidewalk on Bedford St and the east crosswalk on Forest Ave.

About 7:45 am after the race has started, you will return to Pedro Field and provide water and Gatorade to runners who just finished.

Pick up signs, cones, trash, recycling and other items from the marathon course from Yarmouth to Portland after the event, so that the course will be as clean as it was prior to the event. The Wayside truck has the volume necessary for the bagged recycling and trash left by the water stations.

Need one or more volunteers to collect to clean the mixing buckets (quantity 16) and plastic pitchers (quantity 32). The Water Station Coordinator will collect the items and deliver them to the volunteers after completion of the race and course cleanup. It is not essential to complete this task on the day of the race. The designated timeslot indicates the earliest the items will be available and a proposed due date for completion of the task and return of the items to the coordinator.
