Buck Ridge Burn Trail Races

In the mood for a quick trail fix or trying out the trail scene for the first time? The 5K course will leave you feeling satisfied with rolling, muddy double-track, winding single-track, and refreshing April creek crossings. New course for 2024, so winners will get the course record! Come and git it!!

NEW THIS YEAR!! Get more than your money's worth out of this 10K+! Run a classic Michaux trail mix of double-track, snaking single-track climbs, and wild, windy descents! This is SUCH A FUN COURSE!!

Looking for a different challenge? Take on the grit-testing Half Marathon! There’s a little bit of everything on this course: creek crossings, mud, roots, rocks, grinding climbs, grassy rolling double-track, and swift, snaking single track. The course is extremely well-marked with a generous 4 hour time limit. New course for 2024, so winners will get the course record! Come and git it!!!

Anyone 0-100 years old with a reasonable sense of direction and/or ability to follow brightly colored flags within a practical amount of time may enter the 5K.

NEW THIS YEAR!!! The 10K is limited to runners aged 13+ (minors with adult consent), although runners ages 12 and under may enter if accompanied the ENTIRE DISTANCE by an adult. This adult may register as an entrant for regular price, or accompany the child for free but will be ineligible for competitive prizes and receive no race shirt. 

(This "free" option is in place to encourage young runners with less trail experience to challenge themselves. There is NO adult "pacing" option!)

The Half Marathon will be limited to runners aged 16+, although we will allow runners 15 and under who will be accompanied the ENTIRE DISTANCE by an adult. This adult may register as an entrant for regular price or accompany the child for free but will be ineligible for competitive prizes and receive no race shirt. (This "free" option is in place to encourage younger runners with less trail experience to challenge themselves. There is NO adult "PACING" OPTION.)

There will be a reduced registration fee for minors (17 and under). This age-based pricing will automatically be applied once you enter the child's birthdate during registration. 

The IN-PERSON participant cap is 400 runners, 190 Half Marathoners, 105 10Kers, and 105 5Kers, so register soon!  Once the participant cap is met for each of the IN-PERSON races, a waitlist will be maintained.

The top three male, female, and non-binary finishers of all IN-PERSON races, as well as the top two in 7 age categories (0-19, 20-29,30-39,40-49,50-59,60-69, 70+) will receive handmade finisher's medals.  Of course, all participants who sign up by March 17th will be guaranteed a beautiful technical short-sleeve T-shirt (**Guaranteed shirts for in-person racers are only guaranteed until packet-pickup on race day. If you do not show up to the race, you forfeit your shirt. Virtual racers will be sent their shirts.**)

!!!EVERY FINISHER with receive a special handmade finisher's award!!!  When you cross the finish line (or for virtual runners, when you submit your results), you will receive a handmade, laser-etched (with original artwork), uniquely stained finisher's coaster!

For the RUN ANY TRAIL VIRTUAL racers, there will be NO PACKET PICKUP. I will send your schtuff right to your door as soon as humanly possible after April 30th.

Although IN-PERSON-race-day racers can pick up their shirt, swag, and bib on race day during their check-in time, why not save a trip to your car on race day and come get your swag ahead of time at one of two packet pickup locations! Again this year, we will have a packet pickup at ELM Shoes on Friday and at The Appalachian Running Company on Saturday! As an extra bonus, the first 10 people to come in for Pre-Race Pickup on each day will receive a FREE hand-etched Buck Ridge Burn pint glass or mason jar!! A new design for 2024! Make sure you get one! (A limited number will also be for sale for $10 each.)

Possible Full/Partial Refunds for 2024

If the race you registered for fills AND there is someone on the waitlist to take your spot, you may request a refund according to following schedule:

• Before Feb 19th, 12am - 100% refund
• Feb 19th - March 17th (11:59pm) - 50% refund
• March 18th - April 7th - no refund

Event Transfers and Deferrals

You may TRANSFER to a virtual option at any time for free before race day if you have been exposed to Covid-19 or have symptoms of Covid-19. If it is before March 17th at 11:59pm, you can manage this transfer yourself. Find instructions for Event Transfers here.  If it is past March 17th, you'll need to email the RD directly. 

Any time BEFORE March 17th at 11:59pm, and only IF there is a waitlist, you may DEFER your entry until next year. There will be a fee for this option. You may only defer your 2024 entry one time. There will be NO DEFFERALS AFTER MARCH 17th for any reason. Find instructions to complete this DEFERRAL here.

BIB Transfers 

We absolutely do not allow bib transfers. You may NOT offer your spot to a buddy. Encourage your buddy to get on a waitlist, or better yet, to sign up before it fills or closes!

NO Race Day Registration

The entry process closes at 11:59 p.m. on March 17th or when the race fills, whichever comes first! There will be no more public registrations after this time! Yes, I KNOW there are a percentage of no-shows to every race. I still WILL NOT be taking race day registrations! PLEASE DON'T ASK!!

Race Shirt Guarantee

For IN-PERSON RACERS, please remember that your slinky, technical race shirt is only guaranteed until your race starts on race day April 7th!

NO Banditing

Running the course on race day without registering is called BANDITING. For sooooo many reasons you may not even dream of, besides the fact that it is considered THEFT OF SERVICES, banditing is not cool. DON'T DO IT!!! You wanna run the course but missed registration? Email me! I'll run or hike it with ya sometime! :)

Distance Switching

If you ABSOLUTELY must switch distances in order to get your boodie to the race, I will allow it BEFORE 11:59pm on MARCH 17th. In order to switch, you MUST officially switch your registration through RunSignUp. You can find instructions on how to do this here.  Please note: If you switch DOWN, there's no refund of the price difference. You can also expect to incur processing fees.

NOTE: There will be ABSOLUTELY no distance switching after 11:59 p.m. on March 17th.

Please read carefully through the policies and only register if you are willing to comply. 

We plan to stay compliant with the CDC recommendations for holding a safe outdoor event.

• If you have been exposed to the Coronavirus within 5 days of race day and are not vaccinated or have not received a booster, please email the race director. You will have the option to transfer your registration to a virtual option. This is per the CDC recommendations for quarantine/isolation.
• Of course, if you have any symptoms of Covid-19, please do not come to the race and expose your fellow trail runners. Email the RD and we'll figure out an option for you.

In the event that the race is forced to cancel, I will offer participants a choice of switching to a VIRTUAL event, being deferred until 2025, or to receive a partial refund. So no worries! You will get some BRB one way or another!

Refer 5 or more participants and get a refund of $5.00! Just share your referral link (which will be in your confirmation email after you register) with your friends and family. Have them register through your link and you will be credited with the referral!  Teams are a great way to have even MORE fun at BRB!!  Plus, teams of 5 or more will get a $5 discount off their entry fees! When registering you will have the option to Join a Group/Team. All Members of a SOCIAL TEAM are linked by their team name and password. As your team grows, everyone benefits, even those who registered first! Once you hit 5 members, members 1-4 will automatically be refunded $5 by RunSignUp. The 5th member, and anyone after that, will be charged the discounted rate!

A team can be your built-in training support system. You can plan training runs together and encourage one another to reach your goals!  It can also provide a little friendly competition that may give you that extra push you need to reach your potential!
