Information

HMSA is a running club for runners of all ages, paces and distances, including Boston qualifiers, ultra runners, average runners and runners who finish last. A number of our members enjoy running as a team. The camaraderie can be more important than the speed. Together we regularly field teams for the Texas Independence Relay, Ragnar Hill Country Relay, Bayou City Classic Centipede, and HARRA XC Relay.

In November, we host the annual Houston 25K, 10 Mile and 5K event. The 25K is part of the warm-up series for the Chevron Houston Marathon.

History of Houston Masters Sports Association

Houston Masters Sports Association, now known as HMSA, began in the summer of 1974 when a 40-year-old master runner traveled from Houston to Eugene, Oregon to participate in the first U.S. Masters Track & Field Championships. His enthusiasm for Masters' running prompted him to form the Houston Masters Sports Association.

Originally a small group of runners dedicated to promoting an active lifestyle for 40+ athletes. The running club has evolved and grew to include athletes of all ages. As with the original Masters group, today's club members are dynamic, active, supportive and innovative in the running community.
