I am a retired Ob/Gyn who practiced for over 20 years in Pittsburgh, PA. Whenever I would share my occupation with people, I’d inevitably get the comment, “What fun, you get to deliver babies!” They failed to recognize that pregnancy and birth do not always have happy endings and are fraught with potential traumatic outcomes, which have significant and long-standing impact on mental health and well-being. When my family relocated to Miami, I fortuitously met Mindy Cassel, the co-founder of The Children’s Bereavement Center. The CBC was starting a perinatal and infant loss peer support group. I pivoted from clinical practice to focus on mental health, particularly in the setting of loss, trained as a facilitator, and have been leading the PIL group for over 4 years, since its inception.
As a group facilitator, I am humbled weekly to have the privilege of navigating the grief journey with participants who never had the opportunity to know their child. The trials and tribulations they face together, with amazing fortitude and grace, is inspiring.
When you make a gift to my Run/Walk, you’re directly supporting grieving individuals who need support, camaraderie, and hope to lift from loss. All contributions benefit Children's Bereavement Center so that there are free grief support groups for all.
Thank you for supporting my Steps for Healing fundraising efforts. Grief is Meant to be Shared!
