The Elizabeth Ciunci Foundation
Elizabeth was a wonderful young lady who wanted to share what God had bestowed upon her. At a young age, Liz was diagnosed with a learning disability . Determined, she overcame this disability and dedicated herself to helping others do the same. Through high school, during the summer months, she volunteered at a day camp for children & young teenagers with mental handicaps. Liz regularly requested that 'one child' who, at the time, gave the counselors the hardest time. She was so successful in getting through to these children that they often requested her the following summer. At the time of her death, Liz was attending college, studying early childhood education with an eye towards helping children w/ learning disabilities.
On November 26th, 1999, a drunk driver going the wrong way on the Schuylkill Expressway tragically ended Liz's life. She was 18 years old. The foundation was created to continue Liz's legacy of trying to help those in need. Through the foundation a scholarship is offered to a graduating senior at Great Valley High School who is looking to enter the field of early childhood education.
The Butterfly Run is the number one source of funding for the scholarship. In the first two years, over 850 people participated in this event making it a huge success that has far surpassed everyone's expectations. Thank you to everyone who organized, sponsored, volunteered & participated. We are deeply grateful.
