What is Phoenix Racing?

Phoenix Racing is a division of Phoenix Wellness which is a 501C3 Nonprofit Corporation.  Our goal with Phoenix Racing is to surround “at-risk” kids with positive adult mentors who emphasize the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle.  Phoenix Racing utilizes running and outdoor sporting activities to teach kids that self-esteem is earned, self-discipline and hard work lead to success and that true leaders look to serve their community.

 Humble Beginnings:

Phoenix Racing began in the spring of 2013 with the idea that “at-risk” children simply need a safe environment where they can be taught how to be strong, resilient, productive community members.  Our motto is “There is no Strength without Struggle” and we focus on encouraging children to struggle with and even embrace the very real mental and physical challenges that running races present.   The process of planning, training and competing in each race is translated into a metaphor for life in general!

 Progress:

1.  Since 2013 over 2,000 children and their families have participated in local and regional races. 
2.  Phoenix Racing Team members have participated in over 125 different race events.
3.  Phoenix Racing has had 15 team members receive scholarships to continue running at the collegiate level.
4.  Phoenix Racing participants serve the community by volunteering at Food Shelters, Rotary’s International Dinner, Hope Lodge, Relay for Life, cleaning up roadways and working on making homes more accessible/usable for the elderly.
5. Phoenix Racing McCreary County Leader, Trevor Tucker, was recognized by WellCare of KY as one of 4 statewide recipients of their WeCARE award for service in pursuit of Wellness. 
6.  Pilgrimage in the Park 5k Trail Run is this year's primary fundraiser for Phoenix Racing.
