In 1935, a small group of Sisters from Monterrey, Mexico came to Laredo to catechize the children and adults who fled the horrors of the religious persecution in Mexico. This initially included an oratory, religious education, and a kindergarten, leading to the establishment of Mary Help of Christians School in 1935, which is owned and operated by the Sisters. The ministry continued to flourish and the Sisters made their way to their current location on Del Mar Boulevard in 1963. Since then, the Salesian Sisters have had a presence throughout the diocese and have educated thousands of young people.
